Human Rights Worker

Position Summary:
AIDS Calgary Awareness Association is seeking a Human Rights intern for a one-year term. The position is responsible for developing a new human rights project at AIDS Calgary to address HIV/AIDS-related human rights issues in the Calgary region. This is a part-time position from September 2002 to April 2003 and full-time from May - August 2003.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Examine current human rights issues faced by those infected with, at-risk for, or affected by HIV/AIDS in the Calgary region.
  • Research based on community based research methods.
  • Development of fact sheets, workshop manual(s) and briefing documents.
  • Development of resources relevant to human rights and HIV/AIDS for those infected with, at-risk for, or affected by HIV/AIDS.
  • Dissemination of all resources developed.

Education and Experience:

  • Past or current enrolment in post-secondary institution in human sciences or law,
  • Familiarity with the issues of, and sensitivity to the human experience of those living with, at-risk for, or affected by HIV/AIDS,
  • Demonstrated ability in the field of human rights,
  • Demonstrated research and written skills,
  • Effective communication skills,
  • Must be computer literate with practical knowledge and proficiency in MS Windows, MS Office, and Outlook.
