Mission
Statement:
"To reduce the harm associated with HIV and
AIDS for all individuals and communities in the Calgary region."
In the context of reducing harm, we:
- Provide HIV prevention and education;
- Provide support, enhance the quality of life and
advocate on behalf of people living with HIV;
- Promote awareness and understanding of HIV issues;
- Work together with partners in the community to
create a caring and compassionate society in the face of HIV and AIDS.
Our Beliefs
- We believe in the development of a compassionate
society in which HIV/AIDS is understood as a psycho-social, economic, societal, political
and global phenomenon as well as a medical issue.
- We believe in a holistic approach to wellness that
encompasses physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual aspects characterized by respect
for human dignity and diversity.
- We believe that our roots are in the community and
that we must be accountable to all the diverse communities that we serve by being
accessible and responsive to their needs.
- We believe in addressing issues surrounding
HIV/AIDS - such as injustice, ignorance, poverty, violence, drug use, racism, sexism and
homophobia - through advocacy, education and by creating partnerships in the community
- We believe that people living with HIV/AIDS are
key stakeholders and significant partners.
- We acknowledge and celebrate diversity, and we
believe in an individual's right to choice and values.
- We encourage self-empowerment through enhancing
the individual's ability and opportunity to make informed choices.
