This community mobilization project follows up the African community needs assessment study, carried out between 2006 and 2008 by AIDS Calgary and the University of Calgary-Faculty of Social Work.

To better serve the African communities in Calgary and surrounding areas, we are working directly with community members on our advisory committee and through other volunteer opportunities. The advisory committee is comprised of members from diverse African communities and allies. The committee will help guide the project and assist us to connect with and provide education to specific communities.

Current Project Status

  • Continuing recruitment for advisory committee members.
  • Informing the community about the project and collaboration opportunities

Future Project Plans

  • Continue informing community members about the project goals
  • Assign tasks to advisory committee
  • Recruit and train peer educators to engage and educate community members
  • Send peer educators out to mobilize African communities to address HIV issues facing them

For more information on the project, getting involved with the advisory committee or becoming a peer educator please conatct our Project Coordinator.
